Somali media heavily condemns this attack
Mogadisho-(Lug)- May Allah reward him, Journalist Said Hashi was just killed in Bakaraha Market in Mogadisho. The journalist has been working for a local Radio, East Africa. As reported by wittnesses, this journalist was killed by a masked gunmen who fired a bullet from a pistol. Said was immediately taken to Madina Hospital but doctors failed to save his life as several bullets hit his chest and stomach which caused him severe bleeding.
Senior officials from East Africa Radio have condemned the murder which radical groups committed in Mogadisho. These groups are known with their intemidation and threats to journalists whenever media houses cover the evens of widespread looting, killing and rape that are inflicted to civilians residing Mogadisho.
The Somali Media Organisation in Mogadisho has, in turn, issued a statement critizising Said’s murder and the unrelenting threats and pressure of the militia groups to media. They termed that killing of the journalists is sign showing that local media in Mogadisho is close to dispair and this may lead many journalists leave the country. They also urged different fighting groups in Mogadisho to refrain from shedding blood of journalists.
It is not the first time that Said Hashi was targeted with murder, but there were other several attempted murders he escaped from. His murder is believed to be due to articles and news items which announced mass murder militia groups committed two days ago in outskirts of Mogadisho. In his reports Said Hashi conducted interviews with victims of the militia. As known, for the last four months armed militias killed four journalists from local Media in Mogadisho.
May Allah bless Said Hashi who was a prominent and active journalist in the news and stories aired by East Africa Radio for the last two days. Mr Said has recently been reporting news against militia who created violence in Mogadisho. At the same time, Said used to convey true facts of the problems and damages caused by militias to public. The Journalist, Said Hashi, was one of the journalists who were trained by Somali media agency of SONA. He held senior positions in East Africa Radio in Mogadisho Which he joined the year 2006.
However, the murder of the journalist is showing that journalists are facing danger from unknown enemies. This usually ends with threats and intemidation that causes journalists to quite their jobs or face death like the recent Said Hashi’s.
