Our heritage needs to be studied at the local universities”

Aragti-(Lug)-Frankly stated, historian are people who usually study or write some thing about history. There fore, they are experts in historiography, in addition to that, they define exactly as it is the study of all events happened in the past either good or bad in historic way which may concern our personal dignity and environmental area.

As standard master, I want to offer you an open question that is more suitable for us. The question is, why the historical background of Somali nation had not been recorded as other European nations in this world?. For many reasonable facts, this history was neglected and hidden, not only us, but the real history of Africa was concealed by the European colonial rule.At same point, there was no government existed in Somalia before the colonial period that achieved its independence from the colonial rule in spite of Somali community. By that time, Somali people were completely faced economical problems and social abstracts and then this led them to be in the colony, then they did hard work as well as they received less salary from colonial administrative officers.

In the history of Zaila: we are better informed about the Zaila city. It is geographically situated in Awdal region of Somaliland. Berbera is 170 mile south east of Zaila, how ever, it is 40 mile east of actual Djibouti border while Harar is 200 mile to west of Zaila. As we read about the history, Zaila was the major city of the great Adal Empire and at the same time, it was also the state of history and civilization. It is the best route which connected eastern. middle of Africa, Shaam (Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Lubnan, and Jordan) to Khaleej of Arab (Saudi, Kuwait, UAM, Qatar, and Bahrain) to China.

During the convention of Qibla from Baital Maqdas to Baital Haram as same as Zaila and Harar were identical cities were related to Islamic religion, environment, Islamic history and authority. Zaila is strongly believed that it is the historical mother of whole towns locates on Red sea and Indian ocean such as Berbera, Musawac and Bender qasim. Even it is said that Zaila is more historical than Mogadishu. Obviously there is no contrary view that Zaila was where the followers of the prophet Mohamed (peace and mercy be upon him) had settled in it when they were via to land of Habash (Ethiopia) and it was the main centre of the strength of Ahmed Al-qasim who is well known Ahmed Guray as well as it is the place of leadership of Suldan Nour and the city of great empire of Adal. What should the explorers traveled to Zaila wrote about it. In 14th century, the Arab explorer Ibnu Batuta was writing about this port. The trip by sea from the city of Aden to the city of Zaila took four days; it takes two months to travel between Zaila and Mogadishu. How ever, Zaila is a large city with international marketplace and the traders were mainly Arabs, Asians, Turkeys, British, Italy and other European countries.

Arab traders not only came for trading but their target was to spread widely Islamic to the all area of Somali people. Finally he said when we arrived there, we chose to spend the night on the boat and in the wind rather than inside that historical town. By 1840 the British and French had already established bases or they were looking for emplacements to found them on the sea route to China. on the 20th of October 1854 I left in a Somali boat bound to Zaila, a port on the African coast of Red sea nearly opposite and about 140 miles from Arabian settlement.

In my suggestions; Zaila is historic, there fore, we should name after national, regional and international things for it including such as : universities, Schools, Hospitals and companies because of Zaila is the most historical city to Somali territories. This does not concern about only Awdal society but universally involves in community in order to not this history virtually eradicate from the world. Being oral society makes Somali people at the state of not having recorded historical books. Apart from Zaila nearly the whole history of Somali nation was lost so it needs to be collected and also restored in books and then must be put in local and international universities so as to students have an idea about it. All though, most of Somali people are typical educators and few of them are classical scholars, there fore these classical scholars should pay attention how to write books about the history of Zaila and others historical towns, because a man who write valuable book and he/she will be in public site at second of the time even when they died and people keep in the mind for ever.

In my acknowledgements: actually exciting, I am extremely grateful to all the authors whom wrote books and articles about Zaila history as well as Somali history due to the dedication of their golden time and precious properties. Firstly, I am very pleasant to give thanks to honor, freelance writer and honest who dedicated him self and gave a lot of his time and effort for collecting and restoring Somali history, specially the history of Zaila. Once again, I am appreciated to my uncle: Mohamed Hussein Hadi who wrote a historical book about the history of Zaila city as well as history of Somali nation in Ottawa (Canada). This book entitled:(MULLIYOOY SAA SEE). ILBAXNIMADII REER AWDAL IYO SAYLICIYADII. SOOYAALKA DALKEENA, TAARRIKHDA, DHAQANKA IYO CIYAARAHA AND SOOMAALIYEED. Finally, I would also like to express my thanks towards founders of Zaila institute of Islamic studding and Arabic languages in Borama, the city of Awdal region. Really feeling, Zaila institute plays educative role of the community in Islamic studding and Arabic language. I am here to give the founders courage and moral support to continue the effort unless they will convert Zaila institute to Zaila Islamic University if ALLA wills. My special thanks to the principle of institute Sh.Hassan Khaire Dirir and other teachers at the institute.

In my termination: Zaila is famous for beautiful landscape. When you take a tour to Zaila , after you took across a large area and you will see historical things and attractive things like mosque of Qiblatain and Sa,adin peninsula. In nowdays, this town is already destroyed and all people who resident fled into the world where they originally come from including Arab countries.
